Lyrebird Health: The Australian AI Scribe Built for GPs
Australian GPs spend an average of two or more hours each day on clinical documentation. That’s time not spent with patients. Lyrebird Health, a Melbourne-built AI scribe, was designed specifically to fix this problem for Australian general practice.
The pitch is simple: record a consultation, get a complete note written directly into your patient record. No copy-paste. No tab-switching. No admin pile-up at the end of the day.
What Lyrebird actually does
During a consult, Lyrebird listens and transcribes. When the appointment ends, it generates structured clinical notes, referral letters, care plans, WorkCover certificates, and assessments, all from a single recorded session.
What separates Lyrebird from most AI scribes on the Australian market is where those documents end up. Lyrebird is the only AI scribe built natively inside Bp Premier (Best Practice), the practice management software used in roughly 65% of Australian GP clinics. Notes write back directly into the patient record. You don’t open a second browser tab. You don’t paste anything. It just appears where it should be.
It also connects with Genie Solutions, Cubiko (which surfaces MBS billing prompts during consults), and BetterConsult. The platform runs in any browser with no installation required, and works on terminal server and remote desktop setups.
Who it’s built for
Lyrebird’s strongest fit is GPs on Bp Premier, particularly solo practitioners and small clinics where admin overhead hits hardest. Bulk-billing practices dealing with high patient throughput also benefit significantly, trimming even four minutes per consult adds up fast across a full day.
Allied health providers are supported too, though Lyrebird is more GP-focused than broader clinical AI scribes like Heidi Health. If your practice runs on Best Practice and you see mostly general practice patients, Lyrebird is the natural first tool to evaluate.
Pricing
This is where Lyrebird gets interesting for clinics sitting on the fence. As of 2026, Bp Premier subscribers get a free tier called Bp Free, unlimited consult notes included with your existing Bp Premier subscription, plus 10 document actions per month and the Bp integration out of the box.
There’s also a general free plan (50 actions/month, no EMR integration) for anyone who wants to try it before committing.
The Pro plan costs $160/month billed annually and unlocks unlimited documents and letters, care plans, assessments, and all integrations including Cubiko and BetterConsult. Enterprise pricing is custom and includes SSO, tiered discounts, dedicated onboarding, and an account manager.
Discounts apply for part-time clinicians (under 25 hours/week), registrars, and multi-clinician practices. See the full pricing page for current details.
Data and compliance
Healthcare data in Australia carries real legal weight under the Privacy Act and the My Health Record framework. Lyrebird stores all patient data onshore in Australia with bank-level encryption, and the platform is APP and HIPAA compliant.
This matters especially for GPs. Patient records don’t leave Australian jurisdiction. That’s a non-negotiable for most practices, and Lyrebird has it covered.
Company background
Lyrebird Health was founded in Melbourne by Kai Van Lieshout and Linus Talacko. The product launched in May 2023 and has since grown to over 28,000 patient consults processed daily in Australia alone.
In June 2025, the company closed a $12 million Series A round led by Five V Capital and UK-based Octopus Ventures, with participation from Startmate. The raise valued the company at around USD $50 million. In the announcement, Five V’s Chris Gillings noted that Lyrebird had “scaled quickly with minimal capital”, unusual for a healthtech startup at this growth rate.
Watch-outs
Lyrebird’s native Bp Premier integration is its biggest strength, and also a clue about its limits. If your practice doesn’t run Bp Premier, you lose the core differentiator. You can still use Lyrebird, but you won’t get the direct write-back into patient records that makes it stand out.
Heidi Health, by comparison, works as a Chrome extension across most practice management systems, broader compatibility, but no native integration. If specialty coverage matters (beyond general practice), Heidi currently has a wider clinical vocabulary.
The allied health expansion is still in progress. Lyrebird works for allied health, but the feature depth is oriented around GP workflows. That may be enough depending on your discipline, but it’s worth checking against your specific documentation needs before committing to Pro.
Bottom line
If your practice runs on Bp Premier, Lyrebird Health is the obvious first AI scribe to try. The free tier makes it low-risk to test, and the native write-back into Best Practice removes the friction that makes most scribes feel like extra work rather than less.
The $160/month Pro tier is competitive for what it delivers: unlimited documents across consult notes, referrals, care plans, and certificates, all generated in one go from a recorded appointment. For a solo GP seeing 30+ patients a day, the time recovery pays for itself well inside a week.
