The 15-Minute Win: Write Your About Us Page With AI
Most small business websites have one of two About Us pages: blank, or a wall of text about “passion, excellence, and commitment to our clients.” Neither one actually helps.
The blank page is usually a procrastination problem. About Us feels personal, so owners overthink it. The corporate-speak version is what happens when someone writes one in a panic and never looks at it again.
Here’s the fix: use AI to get a working draft in under 15 minutes. One session. Done.
What you need before you start
Gather five things first. This takes five minutes, and everything else depends on it:
- When your business started
- Why you started it (the real reason, not the polished version)
- Who you serve (be specific, “tradies in Western Sydney” beats “small businesses”)
- What makes you different from the next person doing the same thing
- One thing customers consistently say about working with you
Got those? Good. Open ChatGPT or Claude.
The prompt that works
Copy this and fill in the brackets:
“Write an About Us page for a [type of business] in [city/state] Australia. Founded [year]. We specialise in [X]. Customers tell us [Y]. First person, conversational, no corporate jargon. 150–200 words.”
You’ll get something decent in about 30 seconds. It won’t be perfect, but it gives you something to react to, which is far easier than staring at a blank document.
Make it yours
The AI draft will be generic. That’s expected. Your job is to replace the generic bits with specific true details.
Swap “we’re committed to delivering results” for the actual number or outcome you’re proud of. Replace “founded to help small businesses” with the real story, why you started, including the moment or problem that pushed you into it.
Then add one concrete story. A customer who came to you stressed and left sorted. The reason you quit your old job to do this. Anything real. One paragraph is enough.
Publish it
Done. It doesn’t need to be perfect. An imperfect About page that exists is worth more than a perfect one you’re still drafting in your head.
Most owners spend three or four hours procrastinating on this. With AI, you have a working draft in under 10 minutes. The last five minutes is adding your real details.
That’s the whole trick. The AI gets you unstuck. The real details you add are what make it yours.
